The story — in my words
I wrote this one late at night, staring at a static screen on a television that was basically the only light in the room. I wanted to capture that specific, gut-wrenching moment when the person you want most walks out your door only to get into someone else's passenger seat. We cut this with a vintage, analog feel to match that heavy humidity of a summer night spent in total isolation. That image of the denim jacket left on the chair—that was real. It’s a souvenir of a life you aren't allowed to actually live. Recording the bridge, I kept thinking about the sound of a car engine pulling away and how that noise can feel like a physical blow when you’re standing behind a window blind in the dark.
