The story — in my words

I wrote this one as a direct tribute to that specific, stuttering energy of the late 50s. I was thinking about those echoing high school hallways and the sheer terror of asking a girl like Betty Lou to the prom while holding a stack of books. We cut this in the studio trying to capture that authentic 'slap-back' echo you'd hear on an old 45 record. I wanted the listener to feel the rain against the gym windows and the nervousness of a letterman jacket that feels two sizes too big. It’s a simple story about a boy, a girl, and the hope that she’ll stop spinning away long enough to say yes to a Friday night. It’s pure, un-ironic nostalgia for a time I think we all secretly miss.
