Don't Sell Yourself Short ©
by J. Michaels
The story — in my words
I wrote this one late at night, sitting in my truck in the parking lot of a run-down motel, watching the red neon 'Vacancy' sign flicker against the windshield. I was watching someone I care about pack a suitcase for a life they didn't really want, just because they felt like they didn't deserve any better. It broke my heart to see them treating their own future like a clearance-rack item. We cut this track with a focus on that driving, insistent rhythm—it's meant to feel like a hand reaching out to pull someone back from the ledge. I wanted to capture that specific moment when you realize that your breath and your soul aren't for sale, no matter how much the past tries to bill you for it.
