The story — in my words

I wrote this song on a morning when the sun was hitting the dust motes in my studio just right. It got me thinking about that old phrase 'dust to dust,' but instead of it feeling heavy or dark, it felt like a permission slip to be human. We spend so much time trying to build monuments to ourselves, but there is such a beautiful freedom in remembering our smallness. I wanted to capture that tension between being temporary and being brilliant at the same time. When we cut the track, I kept telling the band to keep it steady and grounded, like a heartbeat. It’s a reminder to myself, as much as anyone else, to stay humble enough to learn and bright enough to lead.
