The story — in my words
I wrote this on a morning when the light hit the floorboards just right, and for the first time in years, I didn't wake up reaching for my regrets. My family always had these little aphorisms—my dad with the sugarcane, my mama talking about how souls transcend—and they all started flooding back while I was making coffee. I was thinking about how we spend so much time hiding our scars, but they really are just the places where the light gets in. We cut this in a single take because I wanted that shaky, honest grit to stay in my voice. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about that moment you realize you’re a wildflower that can bend in a gale without breaking.
