Growing Up Wrong Side Of Town ©
by J. Michaels
The story — in my words
I wrote this song at a time when I felt like I was drowning in the echoes of my own past. I was sitting in my living room watching the sun hit the floorboards, thinking about how my mother used to keep her Bible on the stand, a silent anchor in a house that saw its fair share of struggle. Despite the title, it’s not just about geography; it’s about that internal 'wrong side of town' we all carry—the shame and the shadows. We cut this track with a focus on that slow, rising sense of deliverance. When I sing about crossing that threshold, I’m reliving the moment I finally stopped looking back at the valley and started walking toward the light. It’s my way of saying that no matter where you started, the morning is coming.
