The story — in my words

I wrote this one after a long night of staring at my own reflection in a glass of cheap whiskey, wondering why we keep chasing things that leave a mark. I was living in a small place outside of Memphis at the time, and there was this heavy humidity in the air that seemed to hold every secret the town was hiding. This song isn't about being perfect; it’s about that tug-of-war between the person you want to be and the person you are when the sun goes down. We cut the tracks in a dusty studio with the windows open, and you can almost hear the crickets in those quiet spaces between the chords. It’s for anyone who has ever felt the thrill of a mistake and the weight of the morning light all at once.
