The story — in my words

I wrote this one while driving through North Texas, watching the sand basin static kick up against the horizon. I’ve always been obsessed with the idea that the past isn’t really gone—it’s just layered under the blacktop. I wanted to evoke the ghosts of guys like John Wesley Hardin and Sam Bass, not as museum pieces, but as shadows still breathing in the timber and the limestone. We cut this track with a heavy, driving rhythm because I wanted the listener to feel the thud of horse hooves and the kick of a .44 in their own palm. To me, it’s about that jagged mark of history that you can’t quite wash away, no matter how much neon glare you put over it. It's a letter to the future scratched into the river mud.
