The story — in my words
I wrote this song after driving past a local church at midnight and seeing a lone truck tucked away in the shadows of the oaks. It got me thinking about the double lives people lead in small towns—how the 'pillars of the community' often have the darkest secrets. I wanted the music to feel like a slow-moving storm, heavy with that humid, Southern soul grit. When we cut this in the studio, I told the band to play it like a gavel coming down. It’s not just about anger; it’s about that cold, clear moment of clarity when you realize you aren't the victim anymore, you're the judge. That line about the silver ring in the courthouse dirt is what anchored the whole session for me.
