I Gave You My Word ©
by J. Michaels
The story — in my words
I wrote this song sitting in a small, drafty wooden chapel in the mountains, watching the way the dust motes danced in the afternoon light hitting the pews. I was thinking about how much weight a simple word carries when everything else in life starts to shake. We cut this track to feel like an old sanctuary—reverent, a little weathered, but solid. I wanted to capture that specific moment of looking your partner in the eyes and realizing that even if you don't have a dime to your name, you have a promise that's bound in iron. It’s a confession of my own failings and a desperate plea for the grace to stay true to the woman I love and the faith that holds us together.
