by J. Michaels
The story — in my words
I wrote this during a season when someone I love was spiraling, caught in that suffocating cycle of self-destruction and old ghosts. I spent so many nights literally watching the driveway, feeling that physical 'ticking' in my chest while the clock wound down. It’s a helpless feeling, watching a person you care about try to outrun their own skin. I wanted the song to feel like that porch light—a steady, unblinking signal in a storm. We cut this in the studio with the intent of making the bridge feel like a breakthrough, that moment where you finally tear the devil off the wall and decide you aren't letting them hit the ground. It isn't just a soft sentiment; it’s a fierce, stubborn refusal to give up on a soul, no matter how much poison they’re carrying.
