The story — in my words

I wrote this one at three in the morning when the house was finally quiet and the air felt heavy with things left unsaid. I wanted to capture that specific, hollow feeling of a relationship that feels less like a partnership and more like a high-stakes game where the house always wins. We cut the track with a muted trumpet to mirror that sense of fading smoke and lingering bourbon. I was thinking about how we sometimes push all our chips in on someone even when we see their 'tell' right in front of us. It’s about the moment the velvet curtains finally drop and you realize you’re just a shadow in an empty glass, left to sweep up the shards of a bet you were never meant to win.
