by J. Michaels
The story — in my words
I wrote this one afternoon while sitting in a high-rise lobby, watching people in expensive suits rush past each other without making eye contact. I was struck by how we’ve been fed this 'all-American' dream—the apple pie life—as the ultimate goal, yet everyone looked exhausted and hollow. I’ve had those moments of chasing the dollar myself, only to realize the sweetness of a paycheck can’t actually cover up the burnout or the lack of self-respect. We cut this track with a bit of a retro, soulful vibe to ground that feeling of searching for something real in a plastic world. It’s about that turning point where you stop asking 'how much can I get?' and start asking 'how much can I give?' to find your own peace.
