Iron County Freight ©
by J. Michaels
The story — in my words
I wrote this one while thinking about the desperation of the old labor camps and the men who were pushed just a little too far. I wanted to capture that cold, metallic feeling of a freight yard at midnight—the smell of diesel, the heavy silence, and the weight of a pistol in a coat pocket. We cut this in a small room to keep it feeling tight and claustrophobic, like being trapped in a moving boxcar. It isn't just about a robbery; it's about a man who realizes halfway through his escape that he’s already made peace with the gallows. I wanted the rhythm to mimic that relentless, heavy chug of the Iron County line, driving him toward a fate he can't outrun.
