The story — in my words

I wrote this song after spending hours looking through archival records, struck by how a human life could be reduced to a black ink smudge on a cold ledger. I wanted to capture the claustrophobia of that era—the feeling of the borders hardening and the weight of a visa that never comes. We cut the vocals for this in a very quiet, almost prayer-like session because the lyrics felt so heavy. When I sing about the yellow flower being ground by a black boot, I’m thinking about the individual stories that were crushed by the machinery of war. It isn't just about the past; it's about the shadows that still flame inside our own papers today. It was a difficult piece to finish, but I felt a deep responsibility to the names on those rolls.
