The story — in my words
I wrote this one while thinking about the weight of a promise versus the weight of the law. I wanted to capture that high-stakes tension of a man standing on a creaky depot floor with his wrist still stinging from iron shackles, watching the deputies close in while the engine wails in the distance. We cut this track with a heavy, driving beat to mimic that locomotive rhythm shaking the boards beneath your boots. It’s not just about a train; it’s about that desperate, final moment where you have to decide if your word is actually worth the risk of being caught. When I sing about the coal smoke whiting out the edge of day, I’m right there on that platform, feeling the heat of the steam and the cold stare of the law.
