The story — in my words
I wrote this one after a season where it felt like the universe was just taking target practice on my ribs. I was out in the backwoods, watching these old cedar trees lean into a brutal storm, and I realized they weren't just surviving—they were digging in. I wanted to capture that metallic taste of adrenaline and the sheer physical weight of a bad year. We cut the tracks with a lot of room reverb to mimic that canyon sound, trying to make the drums feel like the 'hammer on a nail' I kept singing about. It’s not a song about winning easily; it’s a song about being able to take the knockout blow and choosing to stay on your feet anyway because there's still a light burning in the rafters.
