The story — in my words

I wrote this one while staring at a flickering vacancy sign at a motel near the coast, feeling like I was more rust than man. It’s about that specific kind of shame that feels like a heavy tide pulling you under, where you’ve built a ruin and you’re just waiting for the water to take you. I wanted to capture the contrast between the grime—the stubbed-out trays, the oily sea, the cracked glass—and the blinding mercy of someone showing up exactly when your signal goes static. We tracked the vocals late at night to keep that rasp of 'sulfur breath' in the delivery. It’s not a clean love song; it’s a song about someone pulling a wreck out of the mud and seeing the gold leaf underneath the rust.
