The story — in my words

I wrote this one while sitting at a scuffed-up upright in a room that had seen better days, watching the afternoon light hit the dust motes just before a set. I was thinking about that specific tension of soundcheck—the pacing in patent leather shoes, the cold floor, the lonely glimmer of a trumpet waiting on a velvet chair. It’s about that heavy, weary drag of the 'matinee blues' when you're just going through the motions of your scales. Then, the heavy oak door swings open at 5:00 sharp, and suddenly the room isn't just a workspace anymore. We cut this to feel like that shift in the air when the person you’ve been waiting for finally steps into the light, making every note on the piano feel brand new and actually worth playing.
