The story — in my words

I wrote this one after a long night wandering a coastal boardwalk just before dawn. There’s a specific, gritty magic that happens at 5 a.m. when the neon is still burning but the air is starting to turn cold and damp. I wanted to capture that raw, physical tension—the smell of the ocean mixing with motor oil and the sound of heavy boots on wood. We cut this in the studio with the intention of making it feel like a heartbeat that wouldn't quit. I kept thinking about the contrast between the ferry pulling away and the heavy, grounded rhythm of the jukebox. It’s a song about staying in the moment when the rest of the world is trying to drift out to sea.
