"Midnight Mercy" ©
by J. Michaels
The story — in my words
I wrote this one late at night while watching the rain turn the pavement into a mirror. I was thinking about how we always look for 'healing' in some big, sweeping landscape—a mountain top or a vast forest—but the real, grit-under-your-fingernails kind of grace usually happens in the places we’re most ashamed of. I wanted to capture that specific feeling of two people, both worn down by their own histories, finally dropping their guards under a buzzing streetlamp. It’s not a perfect, shiny kind of love; it’s a 'midnight mercy' found in the cracks of the sidewalk. We cut this track with a low, consistent drone to mimic that city hum, keeping it raw and honest because that’s where the truth lived for me that night on the concrete blue.
