The story — in my words

I wrote this one after a particularly heavy vet bill and a shredded leather sofa. Most people write beautiful, soft songs about their pets being companions, but I wanted to capture the reality of living with a creature that honestly looks at you like you’re the intruder in your own home. We cut this with a bit of a retro, high-energy shuffle to match that frantic feeling you get when you see our little 'aristocrat' getting ready to pounce from the top of the fridge. It’s meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but if you’ve ever had a black cat with a permanent scowl and a hair-trigger temper, you know exactly where I’m coming from. It’s a tribute to the furry little dictators we can’t help but love, no matter how much they terrorize our guests.
