The story — in my words

I wrote this one after stopping for coffee in a dusty town in the Heartland and seeing a local flyer featuring a face that looked hauntingly like mine, paired with some pretty heavy spiritual promises. It got me thinking about the weight we put on people we don’t even know—how we try to turn humans into idols just so we have someone to blame for our own problems. We tracked this in a drafty studio outside of Nashville, keeping the guitars gritty and the vocal take raw. I wanted it to sound like a man finally pushing back against the pedestal everyone's trying to build for him. It's a song for the drifters and the doubters who are tired of the polished lies sold on Sunday mornings and late-night TV.
