Paranormal Deception ©
by J. Michaels
The story — in my words
I wrote this during a particularly brutal February while I was working late shifts in an old industrial building downtown. The radiator had this specific, low-frequency hum that made the silence feel even heavier. I remember looking at a ring I still carried and realized how my brain was basically hallucinating a presence just to cope with the cold. The phrase 'paranormal deception' came to me when I reached out for a shadow near the loading dock, thinking it was her, only to grab a handful of freezing air. We cut the track with that same sense of space and distance, trying to capture the exact moment I finally left the keys on the desk and walked out into the twilight for good.
