The story — in my words
I wrote this one afternoon while I was cleaning out an old tool shed and stumbled across a bundle of denim scraps tied up with binder twine. I remember thinking how those old rags meant something different back in 1959 when they were first tucked away. It struck me that my own life hasn't been the mansion I planned; it’s been more of a crooked walk down a dusty road. We cut this track with a heavy, driving beat to mirror that Texas highway rhythm, focusing on the idea that the 'bruises' in our history—the failed harvests and the pride we had to swallow—are actually the threads that hold the whole thing together. It’s a song for anyone who’s realized that the view of heaven looks a lot better when you’re standing over the mess you’ve finally made sense of.
