The story — in my words

I wrote this song after a Saturday night when I realized I was spending more time looking at my phone than the person sitting right in front of me—or rather, the person who wasn't there at all. I was tired of being the one waiting at the table with an extra menu. We cut this in a small room with a tight horn section to get that brassy, corner-club energy. I wanted to capture that specific moment where the sadness flips into a sort of defiant joy, where you decide the red dress isn't for him, it's for you. Recording the bridge was emotional because even when you're moving on, there's that ghost of a habit, reaching for a hand that isn't there, before you finally decide to let that chair be free.
