The story — in my words

I wrote this one after watching a buddy of mine try to keep up with a girl who frankly belonged on a red carpet rather than a gravel road. He was out there in the mud fixing a fence post, and she’d step off the porch looking like she just fell out of a jewelry store window in downtown Nashville. It’s that beautiful, maddening contrast of burlap and silk. We cut this in a session where we wanted the guitar to feel as steady as the narrator, while the lyrics captured all that shine and glitter she brings into his life. It’s a tribute to those women who refuse to let the mountains dull their sparkle, and the men who are more than happy to go broke just to see them smile.
