The story — in my words
I wrote this during a particularly brutal October in the high country, watching the light turn sharp and cold against the cedars. I wanted to capture that specific, unsettling feeling when the season shifts—not just the beauty of it, but the weight of things ending. We tracked the vocals in a cabin where the wind was actually rattling the windowpanes, and I think you can hear that chill in the delivery. To me, it isn't just about a breakup; it’s about the way the landscape holds onto our secrets and promises long after we've walked away. I was thinking a lot about the 'ancient forest wall' and how nature eventually reclaims everything we think is permanent, from moss on a stone to the vows we swear under the stars.
