The story — in my words
I wrote this one while sitting on the floor of a studio apartment in East Nashville, listening to the 3:00 AM street sweepers and feeling every bit of the concrete's chill. It was one of those nights where the silence is so loud it starts echoing with people who aren’t there anymore. I kept thinking about how a certain smell or the hum of a neon sign can pin you to the wall better than any physical weight. We cut the track with a grainy, overdriven guitar tone to match that jagged feeling of being exhausted but unable to turn the brain off. That line about the billboard burning bright—that was real. I could see her face in every flickering light across the skyline, and I knew I had to get that haunting, restless energy onto tape before the sun came up and washed it all away.
