The story — in my words
I wrote this song when I felt the world closing in on me back home in the valley. There’s a specific kind of suffocation that comes from people measuring your worth by your mistakes or 'the rust on your name,' as I put it in the second verse. I wanted to capture that visceral moment of crossing the state line where the air finally changes. We tracked this with a driving, staccato beat to mimic those highline wires and the humming of an old engine. For me, Texas isn't just a place on a map; it’s that big, velvet sky where your past finally gets bleached white by the rain. I was thinking of every woman who ever had to trade her 'mountain coat' for a bit of sparkle and a lot of distance just to breathe again.
