The story — in my words

I wrote this one while I was actually sitting at a truck stop near San Angelo, watching the neon hum against the red dust. I remember looking down at a handful of loose change, wondering if it was enough to get me to the next town, let alone home. We cut this track in a way that captures that specific heat—the kind that makes your collar stiff with salt and your pride feel like a heavy debt. I wanted to capture that feeling of being caught between who you used to be and the man you're trying to become for the person waiting by the porch light. It’s a song for anyone who’s ever had to trade their last bit of copper for a tank of courage just to keep the wheels turning north.
