The story — in my words

I wrote this song at three in the morning in a motel outside of Memphis, just staring at a map of all the places I'd been that didn't feel like home. We cut the track in a single take because I wanted to keep that raw, desperate prayer in my voice. When the slide guitar kicks in during the intro, it always reminds me of the exact moment I realized I couldn't carry the weight of my mistakes by myself anymore. We kept the percussion driving in the second verse to mirror that feeling of running in circles until your boots wear out. It’s a confession and a plea rolled into one, and honestly, it’s the most honest piece of my spirit I’ve ever put on tape.
