by J. Michaels
The story — in my words
I wrote this one while sitting on a stained velvet couch in a cramped apartment in South City, watching the rain smear the neon lights against the windowpane. The silence in that room was so heavy it felt like it was physically pressing against my chest, and all I could hear was the low, electric hum of a world moving on without me. I started thinking about how we use volume as a shield, how a cranked-up tube amp can drown out the ghosts of every bad decision. When we finally cut this in the studio, I told the boys to let the guitars bleed into the red. I wanted that feeling of a frequency finally snapping, where the noise becomes the only thing that makes sense. It’s for anyone who has ever felt suffocated by the quiet and just needed to roar back at the dark.
