The story — in my words

I wrote this during a particularly heavy winter when I felt like I was physically and spiritually clawing at the earth just to stay upright. The image of that silver cross hitting my chest as I hiked became a rhythmic metaphor for the questions I couldn't answer. I wanted to capture that specific kind of desperation—when you’re calling out for your mother or for God in a place so cold and high that even your breath feels like it’s being taken away. We cut the vocals with that sense of exhaustion in mind, trying to mirror the grit of the gravel and the stick of the pine sap mentioned in the verses. It isn't a song about finding easy answers; it’s about the brutal, beautiful act of the climb itself.
