The story — in my words

I wrote this one while thinking about those sweaty-palmed moments at a high school gymnasium dance, where the stakes felt like life or death. I wanted to capture that specific, nervous sensation of standing by the punch bowl with a soggy paper cup, watching the girl you brought get whirled around the floor by everyone else. We cut this in the studio with a focus on that crying saxophone and a golden jukebox glow to really anchor it in that mid-century era. The 'pink ribbon' line was a memory of a girl I knew who used to tie her hair back just like that. It’s a song about that fragile transition from the excitement of the music to the quiet reality of whether she’s actually going home with you.
