The story — in my words

I wrote this one after a long night at a dive bar just outside of Memphis, watching the way some people have that magnetic, almost dangerous pull over a room. I was thinking about that feeling of being completely leveled by someone you barely know, where it feels less like a crush and more like some kind of ancient chemistry or bad luck. We cut the tracks in a small wood-paneled room to keep that dry, hitting-hard percussion sound, and I leaned into that gritty vocal style because a song about being haunted shouldn't sound too polished. There’s a certain heat in those minor chords that reminds me of those humid Southern nights when you’re too wired to sleep and too caught up in a memory to even try.
