The story — in my words

I wrote this one while thinking about that specific brand of disappointment that happens in a crowded diner. We cut the track with a heavy focus on that driving, rhythmic beat to mirror the ticking clock. I was picturing someone sitting on a vinyl stool, watching the condensation on a glass of Coke while the world passes by. It’s that pivot point where you stop being the victim of a no-show and start being the architect of your own night. We wanted the instruments to feel like they were physically moving out the door—from the lonely jukebox nickel to the sawdust on the dance floor. It’s not really a sad song to me; it’s the sound of someone reclaiming their time after being played for a fool.
